What is Spinal Bracing?
Spinal bracing is a method used to support and stabilise the spine, helping individuals with various back issues to maintain proper alignment, reduce pain, and improve mobility. They are commonly used for conditions such as scoliosis, kyphosis, and after certain surgeries or injuries to ensure the spine heals correctly.
A spinal brace, often referred to as a back brace, is a device worn around the torso. It can be made from different materials including plastic, metal, and fabric, and designed to fit snugly to your body while providing necessary support. There are several types of spinal braces, each tailored to address specific conditions or parts of the spine.
The main function of a spinal brace is to provide stability and support. It helps in:
- Aligning the Spine: For conditions like scoliosis, where the spine curves abnormally, a brace can help guide the spine into a more natural position.
- Reducing Pain: By supporting the spine, a brace can relieve pressure on the vertebrae, muscles, and nerves, thereby reducing pain.
